A twist on an opera classic, Opera del Sol's Hansel & Gretel is more grim than Grimm and leaves you wondering if everyone lives "happily ever after" afterall...

More grim than Grimm.

Following its completely sold out run of The Sound of Music in August 2022, Opera del Sol contintued the company’s success with a spooky vision of Hansel & Gretel. Returning to this production team was The Sound of Music’s music director Philip King (Theatre Winter Haven), who played all performances, alongside a string quartet led by Daniel Cortes (Symphonic Underground, Brevard Symphony Orchestra). This cast also highlighted the depth and wealth of Opera del Sol resident talent, including Nishaa Johnson as Gretel, Michaela Wright as Hansel and Meghan Hone as the Witch and Mother. They were joined by an equally deft cast, including a troupe of dancers choreographed by Shawn Lowe and an undead chorus of youth singers.

"(Meghan) Hone has a sly look about her as the mother, and when the libretto describes the witch as a cat waiting for a mouse, she enters the scene looking like a cat who got the cream." - Matt Palm, The Orlando Sentinel
